Emmie’s 8th Birthday Party

Saturday, February 19th, 2011

After school last week, we celebrated Emmie’s 8th birthday with a Valentine’s Party. (Her real birthday is 2/26.)

Greg walked Emmie and a few of her friends from school to our house. Even though we are thankful for the many friends in our lives, Emmie decided on a small party so that we could have it at home.
And this is how Emmie greeted me in the street in front of our house. I would have never quite remembered the joy on her face had I not photographed it.

Once inside, each girl got a “goodie” bag full of craft supplies which was their party favor.

We enjoyed some snacks and decorated a heart door hanger to get “warmed up”.

We divided up into two groups. One group used blank cards, fun papers, and punches to make Valentine’s cards. Leslie, our friend, stopped by and jumped right in.

Another group made Valentine flowers out of hearts and lollipops in the den.

I love this little series. I’m so glad that Lindy and Kate felt like they could be themselves in our house.
I think Kate was pretending to be surprised to receive the valentine that Lindy had made her while sitting right next to her.

Instead of birthday cake, we ate a trifle layered with pound cake, chocolate pudding, strawberries, and whip cream. It was a big hit and pretty easy to put together.

Midway through “Happy Birthday”, Carter decided to tackle Emmie with a big hug. He doesn’t hand out hugs readily, but when he does, he really commits.

And there’s my mom (a.k.a. Bampy) who helped me out a ton. She and I prepped these crafts and made the banner together. Thank you, mom. I appreciate you!

This photo–and these people–are precious to me. I’m so glad that “Team Blue” showed up for Emmie’s party. This = community.
Leslie has babysat for our family regularly for several years. She knows the good, the bad, and the ugly of our family and continues to stick with us. We are going to miss her when she graduates from college this spring and heads to law school.
Annika and Travis came over toward the end of the party. She’s the 2nd grown kid in the famous-to-us Stolhandske family. She married Travis who is pretty cool himself, and they moved to SA this fall. Our family loves spending time with them. I don’t know why God gave me such a friend like her, but I’ll gladly accept!

During the party, I pulled each kid upstairs and took photos of them to put together this little collage. “Happy Birthday, Dear Emmie!” Thank you Naomi, Kate, Keely, Sofia, Laura, and Lindy for celebrating with us!

Happy Valentine’s Day to Kristan & Andy

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011

I am looking forward to photographing Kristan and Andy when they get married this August. How about some recent engagement shoot images to celebrate Valentine’s Day???

I like this trio–each one for different reasons:

Thank you, Kristan and Andy, for letting me get to know you and photograph you. Happy Valentine’s Day!!!

Emmie’s Birthday Invitation Shoot

Sunday, February 13th, 2011

My precious daughter turns 8 on February 26th. We decided to celebrate her birthday early this year so that we could have a Valentine’s party. I’ll be posting more from the party in the next few days (I hope!), but I thought that I would share some images of the shoot we did together to create her birthday invitation. We enjoyed a warm Sunday afternoon together downtown.
By the way, dear clients and future clients, I would love to do some more shoots in urban settings. We can talk more about that if you’d like and I can tell you why.

I like color and so does Emmie.

Little white girls can jump–and look cute while doing it.

This one is growing on me. . .

Yes, the invitation has gone out. And yes, we have celebrated with a party, but I am still holding onto the last two weeks of her 7th year.
. . . I’ll try to photograph and post the finished invitation. I liked the way it turned out.

Getting Ready for Valentine’s Day

Sunday, February 13th, 2011

We’re getting ready for Valentine’s Day in our house.

It was wonderful to see Carter carefully write each of his friends’ names on their valentines. He was highly motivated to finish the job so that he could keep the extras. He knocked his out a couple of days ago.

Harrison’s not writing yet, but he enjoyed being on sticker duty today.

Emmie signed cards and made some lollipop flower Valentines.

Carter was making angry eyes at me because he didn’t like what I had just said.

Happy 100th Day of School!

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

Today (Wednesday, February 2nd) is the 100th Day of School for Emmie and Carter. It is a cold day–especially for Texas with temperatures in the teens and 20s and a significant wind chill. Carter celebrated by creating his very own 100 Day Project this past weekend (when it felt much more like spring). He made a paper chain 100 lengths long. Each group of 10 is a separate color. Leslie, our friend who babysits for our family regularly, helped him out while I was at a friend’s shower. Here they are showing off their hard work this past weekend.

Leslie was apparently having a hard time keeping her balance while standing on the ground 😉

Carter, keep up the good work in kindergarten. It will be over before you know it.
