10 on 10 (April)

Tuesday, April 30th, 2013

Almost.
Actually, this is 10 on the 30th of April. I kind of felt a bit burnt out as a person and photographer earlier this month so I’ve delayed this post.

Finally, here’s my 10 on 10 of The Annual Pooch Parade–part of Fiesta here in San Antonio. Fiesta is a 12 day city-wide celebration full of parades, carnivals, parties, and festivals sponsored by various non-profit groups.

Note how Carter is messing with two of these little guys on the curb in the picture above. One is buying his humor. The other one isn’t quite sure.

Mutual discovery.

This last image pretty much sums up a lot of San Antonio in one frame. . .
Creativity and humor off the charts here: This dog’s float had all the ingredients and equipment to serve a crowd–a tortillas press, limes, beans, a lemonade dispenser, etc.

Thank you Goedeckes for having us over to watch the parade with your family and friends!

Strings

Wednesday, April 17th, 2013

Emmeline started her elementary school’s Strings Program this year.
She is learning to play the violin. Tonight was the final performance of the school year so we all got to celebrate what these 4th and 5th graders have learned so far.

Emmie and her friend Lindy got the added challenge of learning a fifth grade piece, “Perpetual Motion”. Here they are working their way through it. . .

And here they are experiencing the joy of completing the piece:

***Thank you, Ms. Dominguez and Ms. Hamby for all the hard work you have put into teaching my kid and all of these kids!***

(And on another note, Mom is celebrating that she has cracked the code of how to shoot decently at these school events. Super tricky, dark lighting here. . .)

Annika & Travis

Sunday, April 7th, 2013

Today is my friend, Annika’s birthday.
Annika is married to Travis. And I think he is the perfect match for her.

Annika and Travis have celebrated my kids’ birthdays with us.
They have taken my kids out for ice cream.
They have worn their own homemade spirit wear to my son’s soccer games.
They have taught my other son’s Sunday school class.

Annika has been in my home during some of my hardest days as a mom.
She takes me as I am–without the burden of expectation. She doesn’t expect me to be “on” or “insightful” or “together”. She enjoys spending time with me. And I just enjoy spending time with her.
She is fiercely and beautifully loyal.
She can handle my intensity.
She is part of one of my very favorite families on earth, the Stolhandskes.
And she is able to make me laugh like this by sharing her favorite childhood movie, Grease II. . .
(Sorry the movie isn’t oriented correctly. I’ve had a long day.)

Grease II Crack Up

I laughed so hard I cried.

Tomorrow Annika is moving away.
Yes, I am very excited about Annika and Travis’ move to Houston and all that it represents for them.
However, I’m going to miss them greatly.
