Ranch Trip 8.2014 (Harrison’s World)

Saturday, August 30th, 2014

Welcome to Harrison’s world.
If Harrison isn’t on the iPad or talking to Carter, he is building.
…Sound effects included…

One of the big treats of the ranch is playing with Uncle Matthew’s old building toys–a set of Construx and Legos from the ’80s housed in cardboard boxes labeled with my dad’s scratchy handwriting.

I love how this image includes my dad as I often see him–wearing work boots, jeans, a khaki shirt and drinking a large glass of peach iced tea.

There is a huge benefit to photographing your family often; they forget that you are there.
I hardly interacted with Harrison at all and just quietly observed him in his element.

Nick + Chelsea

Meet Nick and Chelsea.

Even though I’m not shooting a lot of weddings right now, I wanted to give my friends this engagement shoot as a wedding gift.

Chelsea is into photography too and had this dream of doing a canoe-themed engagement shoot.
Her roommate Rian helped us find just the perfect spot for a magical shoot. Rian even hitched the canoe to the ATV and dragged it down to the river for us.

Chelsea’s sister, Amanda, did a great job of dog babysitting, but Auggie just had to jump in the water. This was her first swim.

Some outtakes as Chelsea was trying (unsuccessfully) to keep a straight face.

This was Nick’s favorite part of the shoot. I know it is hard to be on the other side of the camera, but I’m glad Chelsea let me take a few photos of just her.

This shot below is one of my absolute favorites from the shoot. Nick and Chelsea look so happy and giddy–like two little kids playing on the playground.

And yes, balance was a real challenge standing in the canoe. Even though these two are really good athletes, they had a few close calls. . .

Nick and Chelsea, I am so thankful for your upcoming marriage. There is so much to celebrate and be thankful for as I see God’s love and kindness in and through both of you.
Greg and I are here to support and encourage you.
We are so excited for both of you.

Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Back to School 2014-2015

We’re back at it.
We reached the finish line of summer.
And we are at the start line of the school year.

Emmeline is in 6th grade at a new school, the middle school in our district.
Emmeline walked me through her whole first day while I made dinner. She had a great first day thanks to a lot of hardworking, welcoming teachers and some good friends.

2nd, 4th, & 6th grades. . .Here we come.

One day the kids will hopefully say, “Mom, thank you so much for taking pictures of us while we were growing up.”
But to be honest, I offered them some extra screen time to get one picture of all three of them in the sweltering heat.

Middle School

Monday, August 25th, 2014

I am now the mom of a middle school student. I dropped off Emmeline and our friend Will at the junior school today amidst a large “sea” of middle school students.
I am thankful that God’s fatherly care rules over Emmeline even in a new place. She is not a nameless, faceless person in the crowd. She is His loved daughter.
And I am thankful that Emmie gets to do these next three years with her friends–old friends and new.
We celebrated last night with a quick little shoot with her friend Elise outside the school.

La Panaderia

Thursday, August 7th, 2014

The boys were at T Bar M day camp this week so Emmeline and I grabbed lunch at La Panaderia.

GE9A7280blog

Emmie had pineapple water, and I had cucumber lemonade.
Both drinks were amazing.

The breads were the high points of our sandwiches.
And we grabbed the most amazing almond tequila croissant “cuernito” on our way out.

So much passion and care has been poured into this business.
I hope they do really well in San Antonio.
